October 28, 2021 (Schenectady, NY) Urban Co-Works is excited to announce its offices are officially open in the newly rehabilitated building, The Benjamin, at 430 Franklin St. in Schenectady, New York.

Downtown Schenectady has undergone a complete transformation in the last few years and this new co-working space is indicative of how the area continues to grow into a place that is attractive for businesses, residents, and tourists. Urban Co-Works occupies the entire second floor of The Benjamin and has 32 offices, multiple conference rooms, a large coworking space, kitchen area, privacy booths, and access to the roof-top deck opening in the Spring of 2022.

“There are more people now working from home who are looking for affordable and flexible professional office solutions,” said Jeff Goronkin, CEO of Urban Co-Works. “We created a space that can fit the needs of today’s workforce.”

Boasting an industrial-chic vibe, the new space is modern and sleek and features many artworks from local artist Joey Matula of Electric City Art Gallery. Located just steps from Urban Co-Works, Joey Matula describes his art as abstract, with a strong focus on color and texture. “After meeting Jeff and seeing the incredible space he was creating, I knew our styles would meld perfectly! I feel fortunate to be a part of the great concept, and believe Urban Co-Works is a great example of what Schenectady is becoming,” said Joey Matula.

Urban Co-Works offers a variety of options including single or multi-person offices, part-time and full-time access to workstations, business mailing address memberships and more.  “Members can come in just a few times per month to get away from the distractions of working from home or they can make Urban Co-Works their full-time office. We have all the amenities you would expect from a class A office environment and more,” said Goronkin.

“We are so excited to finally open Urban Co-Works at The Benjamin,” said Brooke Spraragen. “Everyone in the community has been excited about the new space in downtown. Urban Co-Works offers a mix of exclusive, private offices and co-working which offers members a unique office setting with built-in networking opportunities. They are creating a sense of community  right within the building.”

Spraragen Partners co-owner Chris Spraragen added, “Urban Co-Works provides businesses with the appeal of a modern Class A office for a fraction of the price. We are excited to make this formal tenant announcement and welcome Urban Co-Works to The Benjamin.”

The building is named in honor Spraragen’s great-grandfather, Benjamin Spraragen. Benjamin moved to Schenectady to attend Union College and after graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree, he founded Schenectady Hardware and Electric (SH&E) in 1923. Benjamin was dedicated to his family, his business, and his community. In his honor, Spraragen Partners have continued his legacy and dedication to the city by making this major commitment downtown to renovate this cornerstone building at 430 Franklin Street.

Urban Co-Works is located across from City Hall on the corner of Jay Street and Franklin in the heart of downtown Schenectady.  Members can walk out the front door and purchase produce and other goods at the weekly farmers market, grab a cup of coffee at one of the many cafes, enjoy live entertainment at Proctors or live music throughout the summer on Jay Street.
